The wire and lace... Cap (Borough in Bresse)

November the 23, and 24 2002, the M.J.C. (Youth club and arts centre) of Borough in Bresse organized, for the second time, a superb meeting of lacemakers on the topic of the cap. More than 25 different activities are represented with the M.J.C. of Borough in Bresse: music, relieving, practical activities such as the pottery, the patchwork, and of course lace.

The Bresse is not an area with tradition lacemaker, but thanks to Mrs. Foussard Edwige, professor, who proposed his services in the Social Center of Vennes, it gave the virus to other people, some 50 lacemakers meet every Thursday afternoon in the buildings of the M.J.C. in order to learn and to practise their passion. Lace is quite present maintaining at Borough-in-Bresse.

Some 120 delegations of lacemakers, artisants, and tradesmen had answered the invitation of the M.J.C.

Mireille Perrier, organizing of this demonstration, had organized the 1st couvige four years ago with Ecully. In front of international success met, Mireille renouvellé this experiment this time at Borough-in-Bresse.

Mrs. Truchon President of the M.J.C. inaugurated the demonstration by a small speech. She stressed the importance of the Art of lace: "lace is an alive art which adapts to the contemporary life", thanked the two Best Workmen of France present: Mrs. Christiane Drioton and Mr. Michel Jourde, as well as the anonymous collector for the loan of its collection of caps, and all the lacemakers Belgian, Swiss, English, and French. A very particular homage was paid to the lacemakers of Borough-in-Bresse for their implication in the preparation of this demonstration.

Once is not habit, we will start with our commercial friends. Distributed in the various rooms, those were mélangaient with the demonstrations. You will recognize Michel Jourde, draughtsman considered dentellier, the family De Liever, and a couple of Toulouse, Michel Claria and his wife, that we often do not present to you, but who takes part nevertheless in many demonstrations. You will find with their stand of many books and re-examined, as well as a great choice of mountings of ranges.

Michel Jourde who continues of course to draw for the greatest pleasure of the lacemakers, but if we less often see it in the "meetings", it is that now it is responsible for a lodging with Chaspinhac (see report). The family De Liever, always faithful to the meetings lacemakers.

And here our new friends: it is of Michel and his young woman. As I said to you before, there is, on their stand, a great choice of Spanish very interessantes and easily comprehensible reviews: some is the language, the drawings are always explicit for a lacemaker.
